I was born to Estonian parents in Toronto, Canada in 1963. From the age of six—when I first learned to sew--I grew up in Los Angeles, California, where all through junior and high school I was the “weird one” who made my own funky clothes. I received my first college degree from Loyola Marymount, a BA in Art, and then attended Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. I studied advertising, product design, and illustration before graduating with a second BA, this one in graphic design. I spent the next 16 years working as a designer, creating movie posters for design firms whose clients included all the major film studios. During this time I worked for Disney and Warner Bros. |

I married in 1997 and one year later gave birth to my son, Japhy. Four years later his sister Phoebe came along. And in 2006, her and Japhy's little brother Schroeder was born. I home school my children with a group of like-minded moms who also teach. In 2004 I began making fabric art in my free time, and my first bags were small, elegant evening bags. Next came fabric totes, diaper bags, and even a few dog carriers. I loved selecting and working with rich European fabrics and soon I was combining them in unexpected ways. I don’t remember why I first put a character on a bag, but once I did, I wanted to do it again and again. All of my bags are one-of-a-kind originals. |
